Each day of the Fjällräven Vandortura ends at a designated camp site – below, we summarize what you should pay attention to while you sleep in nature.
The material at the bottom of modern, tents made from light weight fabrics can be easily damaged if you have not checked the area before where the tent is placed. It is advisable to place a thicker, more resiliant footprint or canvas underneath the tent to protect it. When setting up the tent, make sure that you do not place the tent or the strings along the traffic route or set the tent in an area where rainwater will collect after a heavy rain.
It is worth practicing setting up different types of tents (tunnel, igloo) beforehand, so that you do not have to think which rod, stick fits where, when a sudden summer thunderstorm hits. The basic rule of setting up a tent is that the canvas is waterproof if it is taut, so we strive to pick the stakes in a proper soil and way that it holds the canvas and cord meke sure and check the tension several times. When packing the tent, make sure to pack the canvas away as dry as possible, since molds favors moist, which can damage the waterproofing of the tent and even its fabric.
We need both or more hands when setting up the tent, so use a headlight in the dark. Even when packing in the tent during the night, we will be most effective with our headlights, not to mention the expeditions to the restrooms.
Although it is great to have a good chat with your hike mates after a long day, the primary purpose of the campsites is to rest and regain our strengths before the next day's hike. Please, note that others may need more and undisturbed rest. Entertainment is guaranteed at the closing party, so in the meantime it is worthwhile to go to sleep at a reasonable time and not disturb others.
All campsites on the Fjällräven Vandortura have a mobile toilet. Please, use these to avoid „mining” the campsite. At the camping grounds we also set up a mobile shower, where you can take a hot shower after the hike.
The Fjällräven Vandortura is committed to minimizing waste, so this is why we use our own cutlery and plate instead of plastic throwaways. But, you can also do a lot to make our environment cleaner too - when shopping groceries, make sure you buy the food with as little wrapping as you can!
