Bükk-Mountains

Although Hungary's highest point is not located here, the Bükk Mountains have the largest average altitude range in Hungary, it is a karst mountain rich in caves. Of the 100 highest Hungarian peaks, 59 are located in the Bükk Mountains, so there will never be a problem with daily elevation gain on this hike. The range is named after its most common tree, the beech (Fagus sylvatica), and it is home to Hungary's largest continuous forest area, nearly 100,000 hectares. Thanks to its high peaks and deep valleys, summer is a cool and ideal terrain for a backpacking trip.

The Bükk Vándortúra occupies a special place in our hearts, since it all started here in 2014.
We had been hiking there for 4 years and longed to discover new routes…and maybe you did, too. This does not mean that we are not reminiscing of the cool Hór Valley section, the Uppony slope, which after the rain was only referred to as a mud slide, or the sweaty Ódor-vár climb. We plan to return to the cool valleys again in 2024, perhaps during a hot week in August.
In the meantime, check out what the Bükk Vándortúra was like!
